Great place to relax and enjoy nature. Small fishing pier with big catches. I saw two, foot long catfish caught today! Not good for kids to fish due to small pier. Small playground and great camping facilities. Nature and wildlife are free. Deer, turtles, cranes, and more all roam the park.
Excellent park on all relevant metrics. Lovely lake view and nice trails.
It really is a beautiful park, maybe it was my luck, but while I was visiting more then 4 snakes came so close to me. I know it's a nature preserve, and of course thier will be snakes and other reptiles. but I didn't think they would actually come up next to me like 4 feet away. It Scared me and the kids away, we ended up staying for one hour then left. Wish we could of enjoyed it our visit.
McDowell Park is a favorite of mine! I spent a lot of time there when I first moved to North Carolina....feeding the squirrels, enjoying the quietness, walking the trails.. ..
A lovely lakefront with some easy to navigate trails leading through the wilderness. A few hidden little picnic spots with tables and grills are dotted throughout if you was a heft a bag of charcoal that far into the woods.
